Derby win for Backwell

Backwell Flax Bourton end up on top in local derby.
BATTING first, Backwell Flax Bourton had to deal with the accurate bowling of Nailsea’s Mike Brimble, who drew first blood with the wicket of Martin for four.
Ben Walters and Tom Phillips then took time to settle against Brimble’s spell of 1-12 off eight overs Walters was out for 19 and Phillips, with two sixes and six fours scored a solid 50 until well caught. Goodland (42 not out) and Howe (37 not out) scored steadily as Backwell finishing their overs on 181.
In reply, only Mike Tiernan with a fine 61 and James Billows (10) reached double figures. Joyce with (2-14) and James Neale (2-3) from just four overs kept Nailsea in check.
Tight bowling from Hill, Beal and Walters, who all took wickets reduced Nailsea to 129-8 at 40 overs, giving Backwell Flax a 52-run victory.
n Backwell Seconds started their innings very slowly, losing Walters for 12. Adam Watts struck seven successive fours before
being bowled for 33. Backwell’s Under-15 players Stokes and Flowers both scored 14, but were ecilpsed by Lindsay Bull playing
his first game for Backwell for several years. His 50 not out included two sixes and seven fours as Backwell finished on 174-8.
Winford overhauled the Backwell total with Bryant (43), Mundy (54 not out) and Pearse (44 not out) knocking off the runs in 31 overs. Only Bull
(2-34) was successful for Backwell Flax, who lost by eight wickets.
