Portishead Cricket Club held their first ladies event – Bubbles and Bats – recently.

The fun evening was designed to introduce new players to softball cricket, with trophies awarded at the end, along with a glass of prosecco.

After a warm-up and some basic instruction, five teams of six played 12-over games, with teams coming from Midsomer Norton and Bedminster, who played their first match as a new team.

Portishead ladies welcome new members and play at festivals around the county, having played in a winter indoor league at Gordano School.

They play in a summer league on Sundays and from May 17 will be having five sessions with county coach Piers McBride to provide Activate/Start-up coaching.

The club also started girls' teams last year, who start festivals in June, and their under-11 and under-13 teams also welcome new members.
