Conservative B moved off the bottom of the Clevedon & District Snooker League after defeating Mizzymead.

LEAGUE action returned to the Clevedon & District Snooker League, with the top two teams playing each other as well as the bottom two.

Conservative B started the night bottom of the table and travelled to Mizzymead, who were one place and three points above them.

Con B’s Dave Brooks won a lengthy opening frame 42-17 against Bob Selby, before Mark Adams made it two to the visitors by beating Mark Pemble 54-13.

The match was won when Mark Litson beat Frank Archer 48-20 in a frame that lasted a hour. Trevor Yeo pulled a frame back for Mizzymead with a fine score of 70-32 over Dave Sansum.

The pairs frame was close, but in the end Adams and Litson did enough to win 48-40 against Simon Cambridge and Colin Tucker. Final score Mizzymead 1, Conservative B 4.

The result lifted Conservative B off the bottom of the table, with both them and Mizzymead now on 25 points, but the Conservative team still have a game in hand.

In the other match, Conservative A needed a win to keep their title chase alive. Ron Reeves won the first frame for Portishead A 62-37 over Ashley Hind and Phil Daniels pulled the match level with a 48-10 win against Pete Skinner.

Steve King put the hosts back in front with a 73-40 point win over ex-team-mate Alan Pople before the match was levelled once again, this time by Mark Walsh with a close frame that saw the Conservative A player win 50-34 against Paul Honess.

Honess then paired up with Skinner for the pairs frame against Hind and Walsh. There were only 13 points in the frame when Walsh came to the table, but a fantastic 50 break saw the Con A team win the frame and match.

Walsh’s 50 is now the highest break in the league this season. Final score Portishead A 2, Conservative A 3.

League table: Portishead A (played 14) 52 pts; Conservative A (15) 50; Portishead RH (14) 28; Conservative B (14) 25; Mizzymead (15) 25.

Portishead A only need two points away at Conservative A in their match on March 18 to claim the title with a game in hand.

Tonight (Wed) is the semi-finals of the Pairs Cup. Mark Adams and Mark Litson will play Paul Honess and Steve King at the Mizzymead and Dave Aldom and Pete Skinner will play Phil Daniels and Mark Walsh at the Clevedon Conservative Club.
