Conservative A defeated Mizzymead in the fourth round of the Clevedon & District Snooker League Knockout Cup.

MIZZYMEAD entertained Conservative A in the fourth round of the Clevedon & District Snooker League Knockout Cup.

The cup is handicapped and in the first frame, the 10-point handicap start did little to help home player Bob Selby as he lost 44-19 to Phil Daniels. Visiting captain Ashley Hind made it two in beating Colin Tucker 61-23, who had a 20-point start. Hind made a 21 break during the frame.

Frank Archer pulled a frame back for Mizzymead as he used his 15-point start to beat Alan Pople 62-31, but Mark Walsh made a break of 21 in the fourth frame to ensure the match win and beat Trevor Yeo 69-32, despite diving him a 25-point handicap start.

The pairs frame went to the visitors too, with Hind and Walsh beating Simon Cambridge and Selby 63-22. Final score Mizzymead 1, Conservative A 4.

The second match on the night between the two Portishead teams saw a close frame in which Pete Skinner (Por A) needed to pot the black ball, following his 20 break earlier in the frame, to win by one point 46-45 over John Sullivan (Por RH).

The next frame was a similar affair, this time with the home player Steve King making a 24 break and eventually beating Tony Eastham on the black ball 57-50.

Kevin King had a 10-point start in the third for Portishead RH, but this was clearly not needed as his eased to victory over Paul Honess, who he also beat in the Handicap Cup quarter-final recently, with a good 83-39 frame score.

The match was pulled level by Des Gilbert as he beat Pete Skinner 58-33 to set up a decider.

The pairs frame was between Honess and S King for Portishead A and Gilbert and K King for Portishead RH. The home team were comfortable winners with a score of 67-26. Final score Portishead A 3, Portishead RH 2.

The league table for the Knockout Cup sees Conservative A top on 11 points, Portishead A and Portishead RH on 10, with Conservative B on five and Mizzymead on four.

Conservative A are in the final and will know who they play on March 25 when the final round of matches are played. Con A will play Por RH with the Portishead team only needing one frame to make the final.

In the Monty Cooper Cup quarter-finals, Trevor Yeo lost 2-0 to Pete Skinner with frame scores of 65-46 and 48-12 and Paul Honess came from behind to beat Alan Pople 2-1 with frame scores of 45-52, 72-12 and 66-30.

The remaining quarter-final match in the Handicap Cup went to Mark Walsh as he beat his team-mate Phil Daniels 2-0 with frame scores of 72-43 and 70-60 to set up the Conservative A players third semi-final of the season.

Walsh made breaks of 27 in the first frame and 22 in the second, both times clearing the balls.

The draws for the semi-finals in all competitions took place on March 2 and are on
