Congresbury beat their nearest challengers for the Flotsam Summer Billiards League title.

CONGRESBURY moved to within four points of the Flotsam Summer Billiards League title
following their 3-1 win over Social Climbers, one of their closest rivals.

The match was quite a battle with Tina
Owen-Sevilton taking the opening game for the Climbers against Reuben Hurse. Tina hit held the upper hand to win by 36.

The second game saw the battle of the giants - Roy Jenkins and Brian Harvey. Roy got off to a tremendous start knocking in 92 points in three breaks to reach 123 with Brian still needing 18
to get on the board. The tide turned as Brian
hit breaks of 64 and 41 as Roy started to
struggle. Towards the end, Roy got over the line by 59.

In the final game, Ian Green made the better start against Irving Prowse who missed some relatively easy shots early on, but after a while enjoyed better running to win by 58 in an evening full of good natured banter.

Zimmers kept up their challenge with a 4-0 win at Fuzz Box. George Rowe started off better against Geoff Passmore but at the halfway stage, Geoff got into his stride and secured a 38 point win for the visitors.

The two skippers played each other in the next game and Wayne Ticer opened up an early lead against Bob Selby. A 20 break put Wayne 30 ahead, but Bob hit back with a 27 to close the gap although a further break of 21 by Wayne put him back in control on his way to a 37 point
victory.

Lee Kerslake played the Zimmers pair in his first game of billiards and gave a good account of himself knocking in a series of teen breaks, but gradually the experience of Ticer told, although a victory margin of only 19 showed that Lee’s performance was creditable.
