Congresbury CC are “looking forward to the challenge ahead” when they take on Twyford House in their first West of England Premier League Bristol & North Somerset match of the season says captain Justin Yau.

Despite falling to a 62-run defeat against Weston, Yau and his side ended their preparations by recording consecutive wins against Sudbrook, by 60 runs, and then Abergavenny a week later by eight wickets with eight overs to spare.

Lloyd Richardson also scored 100 and Mick Edmunds reached a half-century during their victory over the Welsh side.

And Yau believes the the three games have all been good tests and will help them for the year ahead.

“Pre-season has been great, particularly playing clubs and sides we’ve not come across before,” he said.

“We’ve been really thankful to have had the Weston game and for Sudbrook and Abergavenny coming over to play us as well.

“The lads have batted well and got overs under their belt which bodes well for the season ahead.”

Saturday’s game will the first time both sides have played against each other since 2019.

Congresbury picked up the first win at Penpole Lane by two wickets, before Twyford House won by 63 runs at King George V Playing Field.

“They are a really strong side and have a lot of batting,” added Yau.

“On their day they are as good as anyone and they have a lot of experience in their team.

“They play really good, hard cricket and we know we will have a tough fixture come Saturday.”

Following last summer’s delayed start, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Yau’s side were placed in Covid Group B.

And after finishing in fourth place behind Clevedon, Bristol and group winners Bedminster, Yau cannot wait to have a full league season again.

“We are really looking forward to getting back into the competitive fixtures and we know it is going to be a really tough league this year,” he said.

“We are looking to take each game as it comes. We don’t want to look too far ahead as we are really respectful of the sides in our league but we know on our day we can challenge anyone.

“We’ve made steady progress over the last few years and hopefully we can continue with that trend.

“Most clubs have strengthened well and we are looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
