The Seasiders had to be play the last 10 minutes with only 10 men, while both sides also missed penalties on a dramatic day.

Lucas Vowles and Callum Eastwood combined to tee up Harry Smith on six minutes, but his long-range effort flew wide.

And Vowles sent a first-time shot at keeper Jonny Hill after a long ball beat Shepton's Asa White.

Conrad Peck fired straight at Tom Creed at the other end, while George King curled a left-footed shot just wide for Clevedon.

And the hosts went close on 17 minutes as Callum Kingdon found Smith to send Vowles on a chase, with the striker curling a shot wide after Hill's attempted clearance had hit him.

White headed wide for Shepton, with Creed denying Jack Fillingham before Liam Watson's downward header bounced over.

And the visitors took the lead on 33 minutes when Creed's clearance was blocked by Fillingham, who rolled the ball into the net.

Vowles shot wide from the restart and Smith saw a fierce drive from Syd Camper's corner tipped over by Hill on the stroke of half time.

Substitue Ethan Feltham set up Eastwood for a shot, which Hill kept out with a reflex save, but Shepton went close to a second when Craig Loxton's free-kick deflected off the underside of the crossbar and Peck headed over as Dan Ferguson applied pressure.

Camper headed on Ferguson's pass for Feltham to cut inside and shoot at Hill before Vowles beat two men and curled a shot just wide of the post.

And Shepton went 2-0 up on 74 minutes as Glen Hayer was caught out by Fillingham, who raced clear to score.

Clevedon hit back four minutes later as Vowles raced away and crossed for Elliot Nicholson to score at the far post, but Alex Twiggs was then sent off for bringing down Fillingham, who sent his penalty wide.

The hosts levelled on 83 minutes when Vowles curled a free-kick past a diving Hill and they could have won it when the striker was tripped in the box by White, but his spot-kick was pushed out by Hill.

Hayer headed over and Feltham shot at Hill, who also saved from Vowles in the final act.

Clevedon: Creed, Twiggs, Camper, Kingdon, Ferguson, Hayer, Smith (Nicholson 63), Eastwood, Vowles, King (Feltham 46), Griffith. Unused subs: Biggs, Sandford, Drew.
