Chilly but calm conditions helped Clevedon Athletic Club runners to perform well again at the second race of the Burnham 5k Road Race Series.

At the weekend, perfect race conditions faced the runners at the second fixture of this year’s Gloucester Cross Country League. This month’s race took the team to the lovely venue of Charlton Park near Malmesbury, a fantastic place to run and support. The ladies led off first around the undulating course with two large two-mile laps in front of them. Laura Meech had a great run again coming home in seventh place (26.36). Helen Ball was next over the finish line in 71st (32.11) with Donna Davies at each race returning to her old form 74th (32.17).

Marie Lochrie was the next club counter in 122nd (36.14) with Elaine Heyes in 158th (41.10). The ladies finished in the senior team event 16th and in the vets competition 14th.

Three large laps of the two-mile circuit faced the men as a really classy field sped off into the distance. Alex Crossland was home first for the club, across the line in 13th place (34.01) with Jed Bartlett in 23rd (34.38).

Luke Murray was 27th and second V40 in 34.47 and Steve Wood 89th (39.16). Matt Crocker had a great run in 93rd (39.29) and Gary Lewis continued his good form in 122nd (40.34).

The men’s senior team scored seventh and 23rd place respectively and in the vets competition fourth and 19th.
