Clevedon suffered an eight-wicket loss to lowly Lansdown in their latest WEPL Premier One outing at Dial Hill on Saturday.

And an eighth defeat of the season leaves the defending champions just 16 points above the relegation zone with four matches remaining.

Having chosen to bat first, the hosts slumped to 38-4 as captain Cameron Harding made 21 while Jared Warner and Ryan Thorpe failed to trouble the scorers.

Josh Breed and Max Horton made it into double figures, but Iraq Thomas suffered a third-ball duck as three wickets fell for five runs to leave Clevedon 6807.

Jacob Ward held firm with support from Will Plummer, Matthew Carpenter and last man Jack Banks to finish unbeaten on 46 and lift the total to 141 in the 42nd over.

Ward hit three fours in his 73-ball innings but Lansdown's openers put on 87 inside 15 overs in reply before Thorpe produced a run out to make the breakthrough.

Horton picked up the wicket of James Palmer (54) in the next over, but that was as good as it got for Clevedon as the visitors eased to their target in the 23rd over.

Clevedon face a crunch clash at bottom club Taunton Deane on Saturday.
