Clevedon Karate Kai students enjoyed a successful day at the Welsh Shotokan Karate Organisation’s South Wales Open on Sunday.

The three youngsters went with few expectations, but Cassidy Backhouse came back with a silver medal in individual kata and Louis Nolan took kumite bronze.

Callum Backhouse drew the eventual winner in the first round of his individual kata and was denied bronze in the synchronised pairs kata with Cassidy by a 2-1 score.

Nolan also lost his kumite semi-final by a 1-0 score against a fighter from one of the country’s top clubs.

Clevedon Karate Kai trains on Fridays in Clevedon, Wednesdays in Tickenham and Mondays in Yatton. See clevedonkarate.co.uk or Clevedon Karate Kai on facebook for more details or call Kevin on 07780 664457.
