Clevedon duo picked for county competition

Clevedon School athletes Katie Grinyer and Luke Gardiner have been selected to represent Avon in the National Schools Athletics Championships.

CLEVEDON School athletes Katie Grinyer and Luke Gardiner, both aged 14, have been selected to represent Avon in the National Schools Athletics Championships junior competition at Gateshead on July 1.

Katie qualified for the event after winning the bronze medal in an exciting photo finish involving the first three runners in the junior girls 800m race in the South West Championships at Exeter recently.

She achieved the qualifying time of two minutes 19 seconds in a personal best performance running in windy conditions, after convincingly winning the Avon Schools athletics championships at Yate.

Luke won the Avon Schools championships javelin competition with a series of throws achieving a distance of 43.15m.
