Clevedon Pilot Gig Club exceeded expectations in its first regatta of the year.

THE first regatta of the year for Clevedon Pilot Gig Club was the Three Rivers Regatta, held by Caradon Pilot Gig Club.

The Clevedon crews exceeded all expectations and bettered their seedings substantially, which were based on the results at the Newquay Championships last year. In particular, the ladies’ B crew who leapt up 19 places on their seeded position.

Results - Ladies’ A (Blackbird): finished 24th out of 52 crews (seeded 36) in a finishing time of 53.23; ladies’ B: (Watch and Pray) 28th out of 51 crews (seeded 43) 1.00.07 (heat winners). Men’s A: (Blackbird) 21st out of 52 crews (seeded 27) 53.49; men’s B: (Watch and Pray) 31st out of 52 crews (seeded 43) 55.50.

Blackbird’s combined position (men’s and women’s crews) 24th – 1.52.12; Watch and Pray’s 31st – 1.55.57.

Clevedon’s next regatta will be the world championships in the Scilly Iles at the beginning of May.

Clevedon will be represented by six crews (three men’s and three women’s) and a host of supporters from the club.
