Cleeve were left counting the cost of a poor batting display as they came up short against Bishopston in Bristol & District League Division Two.
The visitors batted first at King George V Playing Fields after winning the toss but Joe Hance (1-31) and Andy Barnsley (0-17) bowled tight opening spells.
Ben Williams produced a run out from mid-off to make it 11-1, before Hance struck and saw another chance spilled behind the stumps.
It proved costly as the stand produced another 95 runs, before spinners Nikhil Bhajipale (0-33) and James Cole (1-28) combined, but it was not until Connor Hance and Archie Ferris (2-37) came into the attack that Cleeve made inroads.
Hance finished with five wickets as Bishopston were dismissed for 178 in the 44th over, but Cleeve lost in-form Cole for just one in reply with the score on 14.
Barnsley (29) batted well as wickets tumbled around him, with captain Glenn Lewin (0), Sam Williams (7), Ben Williams (0) and Bhajipale (11) going cheaply.
Connor Hance threatened before being caught and bowled for 23, while Phil Gostlin (9) was trapped lbw and a late flurry from Joe Hance (13) and Ferris (13) proved in vain as Tom Carpenter was left straned with Cleeve 42 runs short.
Cleeve are due to visit Bristol Pakistanis in the cup on Wednesday, then travel to Brislington seconds for Saturday's league game.
The seconds completed an unwanted double as they suffered defeat by a 93-run margin against Dyrham & Hinton in Division Nine.
Captain George Parsons welcomed veterans Kelston Crew and Carey Elswood back into the side and chose to field after winning the toss.
Opening bowlers and youngsters Max Viney and Jack Whiting bowled well without reward, before Alex Grubb (1-23), Josh Geal (1-33), Dan Dixon (1-33) and Harry Parsons (1-33) collected a wicket apiece.
And Crew starred with 3-36 from his eight overs as Dyrham closed on 251-7 at the end of their 40 overs.
Cleeve's reply commenced with Charlie Grubb (39) and son Will (7), but Viney (0), Dixon (7), Crew (0), Whiting (0) and Alex Grubb (0) tumbled in quick succession.
Skipper Parsons (17) steadied the ship as Geal added 10 and Elswood (37) top scored as Cleeve were all out for 158, with Harry Parsons unbeaten on 11 ahead of a free weekend.
