Portishead Bowls Club members enjoyed a high-scoring draw against Olveston in a friendly match.

Olveston and District Bowling Club hosted a friendly match with Portishead, with 10 rinks trying hard to outplay each other to win bottles of wine for the highest score donated by Olveston’s sponsor, Optimus Chiropractic and Physiotherapy, who have practices in Thornbury and Portishead.

“Having an incentive for friendly matches certainly helps to ramp up the competitive edge,” said Optimus director James Scrimshaw.

At the end, it was an Olveston rink skipped by Doreen Whitehart who came out on top and went home with the wine. The overall score proved to be an exciting finish as both teams finished level, 98-all.

“In my six years of playing bowls, I have never been involved in a game with such a high score and ending up a draw,” said Portishead captain George Norris. “It has been a great day and once again, Olveston have made us very welcome.”
