Backwell skittles team celebrated 40 years with a charity evening at Nailsea Social Club.

FORTY years to the day since their first match, the Backwell skittles team who play in the Wrington Vale Skittles League Division 1, held a celebratory charity evening at Nailsea Social Club, raising £115 for the British Heart Foundation.

Some of the 108 players who have played for the team are shown in the photograph, including Doug Neilson (far left) who is the only player to play continuously from the first match on September 4, 1972 when the team started playing as West Town in the Nailsea & District League.

The winner of the evening’s competition was Mike Thornton (third from the right in the front row).
