Rain ruined Barrow Gurney's hopes of victory at Chilcompton on Saturday, while the seconds suffered defeat against Coalpit Heath thirds at Hobbs Lane.

After the long journey to Chilcompton, Barrow overcame a couple of early slip-ups to dismiss the hosts for 99.

Ed Holiday (3-11) and Kian Ware (4-10) were particularly effective and, with one shower having already delayed the game, Barrow suffered a couple of early reverses in reply.

Rain returned with them 29-2, causing the match to be abandoned and leaving Barrow with 11 points.

Mark Gracey’s fluent 84 was the highlight for the seconds, after Coalpit Heath had amassed 262-1 thanks to an unbeaten 146 by Chris Williams.

Nick Heal took the lone wicket to fall, before Mark Forge and Gracey took Barrow to 76-1.

Gracey then formed a useful partnership with Mike York (29 not out), but fell with a century within sight as Barrow finished 101 runs short.

Barrow’s Sunday team did a good job containing Keynsham to 221-5, with leg-spinner Guy Fisher (2-45) having most success, well backed catching and fielding.

Bernie Forge (34) and Jordan Allen (60) put on 123 for the first Barrow wicket, with Allen particularly impressive in his first innings of the season, and a quickfire 40 from Ware put them in the driving seat.

But Keynsham fought back with couple of wickets, including the run out of Mark Fisher (21) whilst backing up after due warning had been given, before James Riley (29 not out) took Barrow to the brink and skipper Colin Fletcher hit the winning runs.
