Backwell Swimming Club are preparing for South West Regionals and the Four Seasons Gala, following their recent success in the Cotswold League B Final at Hutton Moor.
Nearly 60 club swimmers competed over the four rounds to ensure Backwell reached the final, which proved a close-run contest between several well-matched teams.
And Backwell came out on top by just two points in a significant result for the club, as they finished with 212 points ahead of Bath Dolphins (210), Bristol North (199), Bristol Henleaze (160), Cheddar Kingfishers (157) and Taunton (156).
A spokesperson said: "Winning in such a tight contest is the product of the hard work and determination of all within the squad, from the youngest to oldest.
"This was an event where everyone contributed and everyone can take pride. This victory also validates a selection policy, which ensured that as many swimmers from the club as possible got to participate in all the rounds and final.
"This policy ensures that as a club we build strength in depth for the future. The Backwell squad was made up of a complete mix of ages and sexes, making it a highly effective way of developing our swimmers and allowing them to grow as individuals and team members.
"It was also made even better, by the presence of some of our national and regional swimmers supporting as volunteers on the night. At the end they all had a blast!
"It would be easy to forget the hard work put in by all the coaches, volunteers and parents. Like most clubs, this hard work is put in well ahead of such an event. This is not something we should be complacent about, as the club could not function without the many unnamed volunteers.
"We're very proud of all our swimmers and love to see them enjoy the challenges and opportunities that come their way, whether volunteering, competing at Regionals or a League Final.
Backwell Swimming Club is made up of approximately 180 swimmers from the Backwell, Bristol, Nailsea and Portishead catchment areas.
