Backwell Swimming Club started the new season with a busy weekend of action.
The summer break is now over for the Backwell Swimmers. Training has restarted and the hard preparation needed to achieve is in motion.
Last weekend saw the club attend multiple events, along with their normal training.
Saturday was the first round of the Arena League, where Backwell, after last year’s promotion, is proudly competing in Western Division 1.
This involved going to Newport to compete against clubs from all over the West (Torfaen Dolphins, West Dorset, Carn Brae, Cirencester, Tornadoes of South Dorset and West Wilts Force Five).
The club were proud to have achieved a third place finish. Plus, the team achieved 19 PBs and four new club records in the process.
Sunday saw Backwell swimmers attend the Somerset ASA long distance qualifier. This was an early start for our swimmers, who competed in 800m and 1500m events and the event was a qualifier for the upcoming county championships. The club was delighted to have two qualifying times - well done to Guus V and Elizabeth D.
Following a busy weekend of events, Monday saw the squad visiting the outdoor pool at Portishead for floodlit evening swim.
Swimming is a great inclusive sport, which helps individuals grow and improve themselves mentally and physically. At Backwell Swimming Club we actively encourage our swimmers to be the best that they can be, in both swimming and in life.
Backwell Swimming Club is made up of approximately 180 swimmers from the Backwell, Bristol, Nailsea and Portishead catchment areas. If you are interested in joining or supporting our club please take a look at our website (www.backwellswimmingclub.com) or come along to the pool on a club night and have a chat with one of the club coaches or officials.
