Backwell Tennis Club members have started their winter programme in earnest.

The club holds six weekly sessions of social club play for all abilities in the evenings and on Saturdays.

And Backwell has a thriving organised rota involving over 100 individual players, while also continuing youth coaching in the late afternoons for over 50 youngsters who wish to improve their tennis skills over the winter months.

Backwell competes in North Somerset and Avon Leagues, with eight adult and 14 youth teams are in action, and winter tennis co-ordinator Patrick O'Callaghan said: "Our members love to play tennis all year round and tennis nowadays is truly a sport that can be enjoyed in every season.

"Thanks to the investments we have made over the years, there are five high quality courts at Backwell which enable tennis to be played whatever the weather conditions.

"In the coming years we fully intend to continue with investments which enhance the playing experience for tennis-lovers of all ages."
