North Somerset Athletics Club won two prizes at the England Athletics Regional Volunteer Awards at Exeter Golf & Country Club.

Martin Fisher won official of the year for the South West, while Sophie Millard took the young volunteer of the year award.

Clevedon-based Millard, 25, said: "I love what I do. I love the club, I love working with the athletes and seeing them achieve. It's a fantastic thing to be a part of, something I intend to do for a very long time!"

Millard is a level three speed coach who has been at the club for 10 years and studied BSc Sports Science at Bath University and MSc Sporgts Biomechanics at Loughborough.

She takes on various roles at the club and was also commended for her one-to-one work with disability athletes.

Fisher has been one of the club officials for more than a decade and now holds a level two field officials license.

He has officiated at local and national leagues, the South West Championships and helped at National Indoor Championships.

He was a volunteer official at the 2013 Special Olympics and has been an active part of the club's development programme for many years, encouraging and supporting new officials.

Chris Jones, chief executive of England Athletics, said: "Our sport is built on the selfless and invaluable contribution our amazing volunteers make. It's fantastic that we can put our volunteers in the spotlight and reward the work they do week in, week out."
