Six new recruits recently battled it out for the High Bisquers Trophy at Nailsea and District Croquet Club.
Ages ranged from 12 to 70, but all played by the same rules.
The two school-age players showed an impressive understanding of the game and have the potential to progress rapidly.
The winner, Greeshka Hunt, on debut, started playing only a few months ago.
He won all his games, demonstrating a strong grasp of croquet methods and shots.
Other debutants Peter Higgs, Julian Kern, and Kevin Payne also displayed considerable skill and knowledge, winning some games.

While this was happening, the club's best players faced Cheltenham Croquet Club in a league match.
Both teams had internationally recognised players, including world number four, James Death, renowned for his expert peeling ability.
He gave some peeling tips to the High Bisquers.
A spokesperson for the club said: "One of the many joys of croquet is that it brings together players of all ages and all abilities.
"It was lovely to see James giving some peeling tips to the High Bisquers and to see the Nailsea experts, Marcus Evans and Kriss Chambers, taking genuine interest in the Nailsea newcomers – who included a son and a protégé."
The club praised the weather, the condition of the grass, and the quality of the cake, declaring croquet the true winners.
The spokesperson added: "The fact that Cheltenham won the League Match didn’t dampen any spirits and the day ended with Marcus jumping on the lawnmower and cutting the grass."
