Nailsea and District Croquet Club recently held its annual speed croquet event.
This competition is played as doubles on small lawns following association croquet rules, with each pair given 25 minutes on the lawn.
Fourteen players entered, forming seven pairs consisting of one experienced player and one novice.
Each pair was assigned a team handicap to balance the competition.
Despite the warm weather, some players were seen energetically chasing after balls that had strayed far from the lawns, all conscious of the ticking clock.
Others adopted a more relaxed approach, although there were instances of players getting caught up in mallets and shouting instructions across the lawns.
Julian Kern impressed by running hoops three and four in a single stroke, saving precious time.
Geoff Hughes adopted the strategy of peeling two balls through the same hoop simultaneously, a challenging trick even without the pressure of the clock.
After four rounds, the two pairs advancing to the final are Roger Baddeley with Marion, and Kevin Payne with Geoff Hughes.
They will compete for the trophy during the finals weekend on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, when the public is welcome to watch.
