Bristol & District First Division - Cleeve 233 defeated Shirehampton 96 by 137 runs
Despite some sore heads and a late Friday night as Cleeve’s Tom Birt celebrated his weeding to the lovely Lucy, Cleeve were on fire as they ran out winners by a thumping 137 runs.
Asked to bat first, Cleeve lost the previous week’s centurion, Karabo Motlanka, for no score at 9-1, as Mitch Want’s 22-ball stay yielded 32 runs at 59-1.
James Tucker then combined with skipper Glenn Lewin to add another 110 runs before James Tucker holed out for a top score of 80 shortly before Lewin was bowled 4 runs short of a half-century at the end of 31 over.
Jack Spiers and George Parsons added 13 apiece in double quick time as Andy Barnsley, James Cole, Josh & Tom Carpenter swung the bat for single figure scores over the last 4 overs, leaving Cleeve all out in the 39th over posting 233 at tea.

In reply, Barnsley’s opening spell produced 3 scalps as Shire’s top 3 (8 overs 3 for 25) were soon back in the hutch at 53-3, to include a catch from Josh Carpenter.
Jack Spiers was unsuccessful from his 3 overs as first change to Lewin castled Wood for 14 at 74-4 at the end of the 17th over.
Want & Motlanka then combined their spinning skills to strangle the scoring rate and during the next 10 overs Want removed Jamieson in 3 overs from 12 and Motlanka cleaned up with a fine spell producing 5 wickets off 5.4 overs for just 4 runs, to bowl Shire out for just 96 after just 27 overs.
The win sees Cleeve in 4th position in the table at the halfway point of the season, looking to improve from here.
This week sees B & D and Somerset Cup action, away to Keynsham on Wednesday and local Derby as they host Claverham on Thursday 2 July where big crowds are expected.
Then back to league on Saturday when Hanham will visit the King George V Playing Fields.
