A croquet club in North Somerset has welcomed many new players to the game over the course of this year.
Nailsea and District Croquet Club (NDCC) introduced the recruits to croquet during the 2025 season.
After about eight weeks of introductory sessions, several new players joined the club.
They continued to receive coaching, and some participated in beginners’ competitions.
James Hughes was crowned the winner of the golf croquet competition and was awarded the cup.
The new players included a U3A Association Croquet (AC) group led by Kathy Wallace, a member of both U3A and NDCC.
In the AC competition, players were challenged to play a 'break' and run as many hoops as possible before running out of strokes.
Julian Kern, the chair of Woodspring U3A, won, with David Ford and Jane Kern finishing as joint runners-up, and Pippa Ford a close fourth.
The next batch of players will be welcomed to the club next spring, with the open day planned for Saturday, April 18, 2026.
NDCC congratulated all new members, adding: "We look forward to giving them follow-on coaching in 2026."
