Nailsea and District Croquet Club host Finals Weekend

Nailsea and District Croquet Club held their Finals Weekend over the last weekend of September.

The event was the culmination of numerous club competitions played throughout the season.

The weekend saw good weather and newly seeded lawns complement the high level of competition.

On Saturday, September 27, Roger Baddeley defeated Erica Malaiperuman in the One-ball Level Play.

However, Baddeley lost to John Hancock 2:1 in the one-ball Handicap Cup.

Kathy Wallace won the Women’s Open Singles Rose Bowl, beating Malaiperuman.

In the Sergeant Cup semi-final, Kriss Chambers beat John Malaiperuman 7:6, 7:5.

Libby Howard-Blood secured a 17:11 victory against Brian McCausland in the Open Handicap Singles.

Baddeley and Marion Cornwell won the Speed Croquet against Geoff Hughes and Howard-Blood.

Games on Sunday, September 28 saw Chambers defeat McCausland in the Sergeant Cup final, 7:6, 7:5.

Baddeley and Cornwell also emerged victorious in the Buchanan Cup Doubles, beating Brian and Brenda Roynon.

In the last session of the weekend, Hughes defeated Baddeley 16:15 in the 18-point Handicap Singles.

Chambers and McCausland contended for the Level Play Golf trophy, with Chambers winning 7:0 and 7:1.

The final match saw Rob Royffe defeat Blood-Howard for the AC Level Play Trophy.

Baddeley, with many victories, was acknowledged as one of the most improved players of the 2025 season.

The 2026 season is set to start on Wednesday, April 1, with more information available at the Nailsea Croquet website.
