Nailsea and District Croquet Club's tournament final was decided by a single hoop.
The Golf Croquet 'B Class' Tournament saw 16 players from across the country competing on the hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching 34°C.
The challenging conditions, with fast lawns and tight hoops, resulted in some close matches.
Each player played six matches throughout the day.
The final was contested between the two lowest handicapped players, Adrian Coward from Budleigh Salterton, and Peter Kirby from Bristol.
The match was fiercely contested and an unexpected error from Coward allowed Kirby to run the last hoop, securing a 7-6 victory.
A spokesperson for the club said: "Congratulations to Kirby and commiserations to Coward.
"The conditions were very tricky.
"The lawns were so fast that the balls ran on and on, and the hoops were tight and very testing."
