Nailsea and District Croquet Club's recent annual short croquet competition showcased thrilling matches and impressive skill from its members.
Held on two lawns at the club's venue, the event featured singles matches played under handicap rules, making for an exciting day of competition.
In the early stages of the contest, Libby Howard-Blood faced Roger Baddeley in a closely contested match, with the former narrowly losing 6-7.
Rob Royffe then edged past Baddeley with a 7-5 score.
Meanwhile, the club's promising young talent, James Galpin, dominated his opponents, defeating Geoff Hughes 14-6 and David Hunt 14-5.
In the playoff for third place, Hunt triumphed over Royffe in a hard-fought battle, finishing 6-5.
This set the stage for the final, where Galpin faced Howard-Blood.
Galpin was tasked with running three peels, while Howard-Blood enjoyed extra turns, adding intrigue to the match.
Galpin attempted to run the first hoop but missed, allowing Howard-Blood to take an early lead by successfully running hoop one.
Galpin then aimed for a three-ball break but faltered at hoop three.
The match remained tight throughout, with Galpin ultimately clinching the trophy with a score of 9-7.
The next NDCC competition is the annual speed croquet on Saturday, July 26, and all are welcome to attend.
