Nailsea and District Croquet Club triumphed over Bristol South in their first match of the season.
The South West Croquet Federation Intermediate League match was played in challenging weather conditions, with a chilly start and a warm afternoon affecting lawn speed.
Despite this, Nailsea managed to secure a 4-3 victory.
The doubles round went to Bristol, but Nailsea fought back with notable wins.
Brian Roynon defeated Tim Knight 26-10, and Roger Baddeley overcame Geoff Barrett 26-17.
Nailsea's captain, Linda Shaw, said: "It was our first match of the season and a win for Nailsea, so a really good start for us."
The match was not without incident, as Bristol player Chris Frew sustained a hand injury in the morning but insisted on continuing.
The club wished him a speedy recovery.
