Cup fever took over North Somerset this weekend when the FA Cup was brought to Nailsea and Tickenham FC.
The Swags played the biggest game in their brief history on Saturday when they took on National League South side Chippenham Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, as well as having the actual FA Cup trophy present in the stands.
Locals were encouraged to visit the ground to take pictures with the trophy and support their team before the big match.
The game itself ended in a 6-1 loss for The Swags despite a brilliant effort against a team many steps above them in the football league, but the presence of such high-level football has had a big impact at the club.
Speaking to the FA, Nailsea & Tickenham’s Chairman Bob Gregory said: “FA Cup fever has arrived in little old Nailsea, and I can’t say how proud I am personally in my 36th year at Fryth Way, but more so for what we have achieved since the merger between Nailsea Town and Tickenham United just barely nine years ago.
“The actual FA Cup coming to Fryth Way is just a massive bonus, and will promote our club even further as well as the financial reward that we have taken from the journey.”
