Following a close loss to Clutton at the season's opening, the newly formed Wrington Redhill team bounced back with a victory earning their first points for the season.

The game originally set for the local recreation ground had to move due to pitch damage.

Appreciation was expressed towards Ashton & Backwell for accommodating the match on short notice.

On the evening of September 21, the Wrington Redhill lads ventured into the Lancer Scott Ltd stadium, aware of the challenging match against the current league leaders, Ashton & Backwell.

From the start, the visitors appeared driven, with the disappointment from the Clutton defeat providing ample motivation.

Phil Baker and Scott Campbell, the new management team, had advised the team to adopt a more progressive playing strategy.

During major parts of the first half, Wrington Redhill was consistently threatening in their attack while retaining control of the midfield and maintaining defence.

They were closest to scoring, with Luke Weeks narrowly missing on two instances.

The first half ended goalless.

As the second half commenced, Wrington seemed as buoyant as in the first half, with Jack Hutchings and Harrison Campbell particularly testing the Ashton & Backwell defence.

Although the home team did pose a challenge for the Wrington Redhill defence, the visitors' midfield trio - Cam Milkins, Lew Milkins, and Jake Marshman - remained relentless throughout the game.

They provided defensive cover while also maintaining a potency for the attack.

Josh Skuse returned with a dynamic effort to score through an overhead kick that only just missed the goal.

Wrington began to seem most likely to score, and Jack Hutchings sealed this anticipation, seizing a sensational pass from captain Connor Harding-James, which then found the back of the net.

The score stood at 1-0 in favour of Wrington Redhill.

Wrington Redhill continued to defend commendably for the rest of the game, securing their first three points of the season with a well-earned win.

Standout performers include both fullbacks, Sam Fletcher and Jenson Backhouse.

However, the man of the match, chosen by the supporters, was Rob Hannah.

Remarkable for his second solid performance as the goalkeeper, attention should be turned his way as the season progresses.
