Clevedon CC hosted Ilminster this weekend and after a phenomenal all-round performance that saw three players hit half-centuries and the bowlers claim all 10 wickets, The Seasiders ran away winners by 111 runs.
Clevedon opened the batting and played well, producing 259 runs from 48.2 overs as multiple batsmen contributed big scores including Will Plummer who hit a game-high 78 off 54 balls.
Louie Woodlands and Sean Dickson got their side off to a strong start as they combined for 30 before Woodlands’ departure for 21 runs in the 6th over.
Dickson added nine more until he was trapped for LBW eight balls later, bringing in Bayley Wiggins, 35 runs, and Will Carpenter, 40, who upped the run rate.
The pair took the team to 95-3 and 124-4 by the end of the 27th over before Wiggins was caught and Carpenter was dismissed for the team’s second LBW of the day.
Iraq Thomas then came into add a quick five runs before Plummer came in at number seven and started hitting big, firing seven fours and four sixes over the boundary on the way to his 78-run total.
Plummer’s effort took Clevedon from a reasonable 135-5 at the start of the 31st over to a truly competitive 252-6 after his dismissal in the 47th over.
After Plummer’s prompt 78-run outing Matthew Carpenter added one run, Jacob Ward four, and Jack Banks two as Clevedon’s bottom order added minimal runs before being bowled out for 269 after 48.2 overs.
Coming into bowl after the break Clevedon knew early wickets would put them well ahead in the game, and Carpenter willingly obliged, taking three wickets from his first five overs to record figures of 3-23 from seven and put Ilminster at 25-3 after nine overs.
Thomas, 1-20 from six overs, and Banks, 23 runs from seven, joined the attack with Thomas striking in the 20th, before Ward took the ball to claim his first of four wickets of the day with Ilminster at 83-5 in the 25th and falling far behind.
Ward went on to take wickets in the 29th, the 37th, and the 43rd overs all for minimal runs, putting Ilminster at 139-9 and finishing with fantastic figures of 4-16 from 10 overs.
Bowling partner Wiggins took two more wickets of his own as Clevedon’s bowlers skittled Ilminster for 148 runs by the 44th over, securing the 111-run win and all 20 league points.
Clevedon now go on to play Golden Hill at home on July 6th.
