Nailsea and District Croquet Club (NDCC) will proudly be hosting the Golf Croquet Home Internationals Championship this July.
Once again, the Welsh Croquet Association has asked the club to host the event on their behalf. Nailsea is a popular top level venue because of its high quality lawns and challenging hoops. Hoops with a ball/hoop clearance of just 1/16 of an inch are expertly set by club volunteers and they provide a perfect opportunity for elite players to show their skills.
The Home nations take it in turn to arrange the Home Internationals, usually in their own country. However, there are no clubs in Wales with more than two courts, so the Nailsea club members are pleased to step in to provide a perfect venue that is relatively close to Wales, and has four lawns.
Four years ago, the event had to be postponed by a year because of the Pandemic. Even in 2021, restrictions prevented the Irish team from travelling and one of the Welsh team was in quarantine for COVID-19 so it will be particularly exciting to welcome a full complement of players in their colourful International strips.
Play will take place throughout the weekend of 20/21 July, and spectators are especially welcome. Come and support your nation, be it England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales. Leeks, Welshcakes, dragons, shamrocks, thistles, roses and even trios of lions might be lurking. The players will hold a celebration meal together on the Saturday evening at the Old Farmhouse pub.
