Nailsea and District Croquet Club recently played at home against Camerton & Peasedown Croquet Club in the SWF Golf Croquet Level Play Premier League and came away with a dominant 13-7 win.
The Nailsea team for this match was Richard Broad (-1), Andrew Wimshurst (0), Steve Durston (3), and Brian McCausland (3), with players’ handicaps in brackets.
The Camerton & Peasedown team consisted of Colin Britt(-1), David Milford(3), Des Back(4), Ros Key-Pugh(4), and Charles Fingleton (5).
With Nailsea lawns in excellent condition, and the sun shining, two initial rounds of doubles gave Nailsea a 3-1 lead heading into the singles games.
Nailsea was the stronger team on paper and pushed ahead in the next two rounds, winning seven of the eight matches to hold a 10-2 lead, securing at least a draw for the day with eight rounds still to play.
Only one more win was required by Nailsea to secure overall victory, but Camerton fought back hard in the following rounds with some notable wins for David and Charles against lower handicap players.
However, the strong lead held by Nailsea was bolstered by a number of wins in the final rounds, resulting in a final score of 13-7 for Nailsea.
A NDCC spokesperson said: “Nailsea is a great place for beginners and for ongoing training, and recent results are showing the reward.”
