Nailsea and District Croquet Club were recently pitched against Bristol Croquet Club in the Golf Handicap League, hosting a local derby.
Golf Croquet is one of the two types of the game, and is frequently fast, where players aim to steal hoops, often whacking an opponent’s ball away from, or even out of, a hoop and across the lawn into an unplayable position.
Nailsea 'B' team were up against Bristol 'A' team, playing in ideal dry conditions on Nailsea’s super lawns.
First play saw four doubles games, which put Bristol ahead by one game.
Nailsea fought back in the singles’ rounds and managed to claw back to a lead of 5-3.
The afternoon play saw some very close battles on the lawns with matches going either way until Nailsea ultimately sealed victory, with a final score of 12-8.
A member of Nailsea Croquet Club said: “Golf croquet is becoming ever popular and Nailsea can be proud of the teams which are putting the town on the croquet map.”
