Clevedon Bowls club will be hosting an open day on Sunday May 26th as part of Bowls England’s Big Bash Bowls weekend over the May bank holiday.

The Big Bash Bowls weekend is a nationwide campaign organised by the sport’s national governing body and encourages Club’s across the country to host open days between May 24th and 27th in order to attract more people to the game.

It’s a perfect time to start for novice bowlers in Clevedon and across Somerset as the area was voted bowling’s County of the Year 2023.

Somerset boasts 72 clubs and over 5000 registers bowlers, with standards ranging from those who like a casual game followed by a ‘cuppa’ and a chat to international super stars.

One of those international starts is Clevedon Bowling Club’s Stef Branfield who was the 2023 Women’s National Singles Champion and multi gold medallist in the 2022 European Games.

She said: “I have been playing bowls since I was twelve and 22 years on, I still love the game.

“It’s a great sport for families and all people of all ages, so come along and give it a try”.
