Two junior tennis players from North Somerset took on the very best players from around the Southwest region on Sunday and ended the day on top the podium.

North Somerset tennis stars Jesse and Lola competed in the Under-8s County Cup in Devon on Sunday and returned as county champions.

The tournament is a team competition, similar in set up to the Davis Cup, where squads of 8-12 players from regions around the country compete against each other to find a champion.

Jesse and Lola represented their closest regional team Avon, and helped the team win the overall event for both the boys and girls.

It was a full day of singles and doubles matches for them, playing against the top players from Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall.

The pair train on Clevedon's seaside courts under the tutelage of coaches from the North Somerset Tennis Academy.

Stuart from NSTA said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for Jesse and Lola.

“The standard of tennis from all counties was incredibly high and the Avon players were amazing.

“It was great to see them all support each other and all the parents showing support for all the players, we’re very proud of both of them.”
