Counties 1 Tribute Western North: Clevedon 59-15 Chipping Sodbury

Clevedon RFC picked up a very impressive win at the weekend at home against Chipping Sodbury.

The match in the Counties One Tribute Western North ended 59-15 in favour of Clevedon as they were in hot form throughout the match.

It snapped a three game losing run for Clevedon after defeats in recent weeks against Old Bristolians, Nailsea & Backwell and Longlevens.

When you add in their postponed game last weekend, and the Christmas break, it was Clevedon's first win since December 2.

And what a win it was. From start to finish Clevedon were in control of the match and played some truly expansive rugby to seal a very convincing and deserved victory.

Ethan Thomas opened the scoring for Clevedon with a penalty conversion on three minutes.

And soon after Brian Largenton crossed for the first try of the match on nine minutes after a well worked move and Thomas converted to make it 10-0.

There was a try for Chipping Sodbury in reply in the 20th minute but the visitors found it hard to break through for much of the game.

The hosts scored two further tries before the half time break, both converted by Thomas as he continued his strong form with the boot.

Matthew Fisher scored the first of those two tries with Rory Mcguigan grabbing the other on 35 minutes.

Against the run of play, Sodbury picked up a second try of the match in the final knockings of the first half which meant the score at the break was 24-10.

Two minutes into the second half Matthew Fisher scored for Clevedon, with Thomas converting to kick start the period on the right foot.

A converted Fergus Cole try on 48 minutes took the score to 38-10 before the visitors got their final points of the match with a third try on 52 minutes.

From there, Clevedon were dominant going forward and scored three more tries through Mcguigan, Largenton and Charlie Tucker all of which were converted by Thomas.

That brought the final score to 59-15 and sealed a very impressive win in front of the home fans for Clevedon.
