Clevedon Ladies 11-0 Avonmouth
Injury ravaged Avonmouth sent a weakened team to play Clevedon Ladies and the home side took full advantage of the situation.
Before the sound of the opening whistle had died away the home side had taken the lead. Beth Barzotelli took the ball into the opposing half, passing to Georgie Blackburn who in turn crossed for Ashlee Cooper to open the scoring. The home team played expansive hockey to bring all their players into the action. Architect in chief Beth Barzotelli scored the second, quickly followed by Georgie Blackburn and Vicky Ford.
The visiting keeper was in great form producing a string of saves, most notably from Lauren Bird's powerful shots. Avonmouth did make some forays into the Clevedon defence but were unable to seriously threaten the home goal. Then to complete the half Beth Barzotelli went through her repertoire of dazzling skills as she scored four goals in a row to give Clevedon an 8-0 lead going into the break.
The second half was a more relaxed affair with both sides accepting that Clevedon would win comfortably, the home side changed positions around which gave Libby Barzotelli (mother of Beth) opportunity to lead the attack. Lauren Hughes was having a great game playing in front of the full backs and Lucy Pope was unlucky not to get her name on the score sheet and she rifled in some great shots. Clevedon increased their lead when Vicky Ford added the ninth, then Libby Barzotelli, got the tenth, the eleventh goal went to Ford to wrap up an impressive performance.
On Saturday Clevedon travel to play Clifton VI.
