Clevedon Cricket Club has confirmed that overseas player Bayley Wiggins will return to the club for another season.

Last season the New Zealand player became a fan favourite and supporters will be hoping for more in 2024.

A club spokesperson said: "We’re delighted to announce the return of Bayley Wiggins for the 2024 season.

"The Kiwi will join up with the squad in April, ahead of the start of the WEPL season on May 4, subject to international clearance."

And club chairman Marc Jenkins added: “Bayley became a bit of a fan favourite last season and quickly settled into the club.

“We’re delighted to welcome him back this summer following the conclusion of the domestic season in New Zealand.

“To have him return only strengthens our ambitions of returning to the WEPL Premier Division this year."

This season and the year 2024 is the 150th year Clevedon Cricket Club has been in existence.

The club said: "As we enter into 2024, we look ahead to our 150th season as a club, we’re making sure that 2024 is going to be one to remember."

Ahead of the 2024 season, Clevedon Cricket Club confirmed Matt Carpenter has been appointed first team captain while Jack Davey has been named as second team skipper.

Carpenter will be taking over the role from Cam Harding while Davey will inherit the position from Mark Bibbing

Both appointments were made at the Annual General Meeting as Clevedon look return to WEPL One in their 150th season in 2024.

Chairman Jenkins said: “We’re extremely excited and optimistic about our 150th year as one of the leading cricket clubs in the south-west.

"We are also very proud to have appointed two Clevedon born and bred cricket players to Lead their respective squads in the 2024 season. It’s testament to the incredible youth set up We have developed here at Clevedon, and we and we couldn’t be happier to have these two brilliant cricketers drive us forward."

Jenkins added: "Aside from the playing side of things, we now have changed our license and will be operating to the wider community under the stewardship of our new bar manager, Matt Read.

"To celebrate our 150th year we have a mega summer planned. We can’t reveal too much about these events at the moment, but please keep an eye on our social media and more to stay in touch with the plans.

"We must stress the events and the bar are open to the entire community. We are not just a cricket club, we are a community hub."
