Somerset Cup: Portishead Ladies 2-0 Bridgwater United FC Women
Portishead Town Ladies have progressed to the semi-finals of the Somerset Senior Cup after knocking out reigning champions Bridgwater United Women at the weekend.
The match played in Portishead ended 2-0 as Bridgwater were unable to really get a foothold in the game.
It was a tough defeat for Bridgwater who were the reigning Somerset Cup champions and are now unable to defend their title.
Instead, Portishead progress to the semi-finals of the Somerset FA County Cup after what was a dominant 2-0 victory.
Goals came from Stella Gandee Morgan who opened the scoring and skipper Laura Barrett secured the win.
Elsewhere, the Portishead Town Ladies Reserves took on Sydenham on Sunday in a nail-biting clash, it was physical, gusty and blustery but they won 4-2.
Goals came from Maisy Ruffle with two, Courtney Bean and Heidi Bevan with one each.
The club said: "The ferocity of this young group of players continues to impress - and although match reports inevitably focus on the goal scorers; a deserved mention has to go to one of the strongest defensive lines we’ve had in recent years."
