Clevedon Town had their highest attendance in 14 years against neighbours Nailsea & Tickenham at the Everyone Active Stadium.

The Boxing Day encounter say 364 people saw the Seasiders beat the Swags 3-1 to extend their lead at top of the Toolstation Western League Premier by four points, smashing the average attendance, which is just over 200.

It was the highest number since 365 supporters saw a 1-0 defeat against Oxford City on the last day of the 2008/09 season on April 25.

The Oxford City game was potentially huge for both teams. Clevedon needed to win to guarantee Southern League premier Division survival while Oxford needed a win and hope Hemel Hempstead lost to grab the last play-off place.

However, in the end it didn’t matter as Hemel won and Banbury United, who had to win to overhaul Town lost 5-0 at champions Corby Town, so both Clevedon and City stayed where they were.

The highest attendance at the ground did not involve Clevedon Town and saw 2,870 attended Bristol City Legends v Rovers Legends in April 2006, while the highest for Seasiders game was 2,261 in their FA Cup first round tie against Chester City in November 2006, which ended 4-1 to the then Football League side.

"The crowd were mint," said manager Alex White.

"It was great to see the stadium packed and it helped create a special game. Our support on the road has been magnificent in the last couple of months, the Seasiders have been making some real noise and then again this time at home.

"When the players needed a lift the crowd helped with that. It was a big game for both clubs and the crowd reflected that, now hopefully we see a number return again into 2024."
