Yatwell responded from their Somerset Cup exit by edging past local rivals Clevedon 31-29 after the result was properly in the balance until the final whistle last Sunday.

Yatwell opened the scoring through Ned Hill before a ball out wide allowed Clevedon to equalise in the corner.

Yatwell went back in front when the ball found centre Matt Lane, who shot through a gap to score.

Clevedon then narrowed the gap before Yatwell scored again through Lane’s second.

Clevedon ensured they would go into half-time all level when a quick tap and go found them space to go over.

Yatwell went back in front through Kieran Thomas, who fought his way through the defence to score a well-deserved try.

Clevedon, again, clawed one back as they drove through a lineout to score but without the conversion this time and the game was all to play for.

Yatwell scored again after a 5m penalty, for a high tackle, was rewarded as Clarke took the ball at pace and powered over the line to score.

And as the match entered the closing stages, the final try of the game was scored.

A Clevedon catch and drive off an attacking line-out, from a penalty, gave them the final score, but another missed conversion, as Yatwell picked up a memorable victory.
