Nailsea & Tickenham were knocked out out of the FA Vase after losing an eight-goal thriller in an entertaining match with Hartpury University last Saturday.
The second round tie was changed to Pitch One at Hartpury University after Fryth Way was not ready for the game due due to the weather.
But that didn't stop the Swags from taking the lead in the 15th minute when Jacob O’Donnell found Joe Berry who curled a shot into the far corner.
Hartpury equalised 19 minutes later after good play down the left found King Baidoo unmarked to tap in to make it 1-1 at half-time after a fairly even first half.
Hartpury came out the blocks the fastest in the second half and scored two quick fire goals after poor defending, through King and then Riley McGregor.
However. the Swags bounced back with a Lloyd Mills header to make it 3-2 and the chance of a comeback was on.
But any hope was wasted when Nailsea & Tickenham conceded two further goals in the final stages through Ben Baxter’s powerful strike and a penalty from Phil King.
There was still time for a Lucas Vowles header to make it 5-3 but the damage was done as Nailsea & Tickenham bowed out of the competition.
"Very disappointing, we were the better team in the first half and we should of put the game to bed after going 1-0 up," co-manager Nic Steadman said.
"We had a stonewall penalty not given which would have helped but that’s football! Second half they were the better side and started very quick, with two goals in the space of two minutes, we were then chasing the game!
"We got it back to 3-2 but you can’t afford to give a team five goals and expect to win.
"The team is still understanding and learning from each other, always tough with new faces sometimes it takes time to gel and that’s the transition we are going through at the minute."
Despite defeat Steadman said there is some pride to take after reaching the second round in their first ever season in the FA Vase.
"Yes, of course, we are proud as a club for sure but also gutted we didn’t go further," he added.
"Enjoyable of course, some good games and good wins. Nice to be in the Vase for sure."
