Clevedon RFC chairman Neil Tucker was awarded the Ted Arnold Trophy at the Bristol & District Rugby Combination Member clubs’ meeting recently.

Tucker was presented the award by David Woodward, current chairman of the Bristol Rugby, for contributions to community rugby.

The Ted Arnold Trophy was donated by Malcolm Pearce, former Chairman of Bristol, who named it after supporter Ted Arnold.

Originally it was presented to people within the club but it was decided by the Bristol Former Players Association that the award should be presented to community rugby based deserving candidates.

“The award means so much but it was also such a big surprise and shock and totally unexpected,” Tucker said.

“I do what I do because I enjoy it and it gives others the opportunity to play and enjoy the wonderful game of rugby.

“It's always nice to be recognized for the work you do and to win such a prestigious award is unbelievable, but it would not be possible without the support of my family and my fantastic committee. I am honoured to have received it.”

Tucker joined Clevedon at the age of 16 and played over 500 games for the club before retiring in 2018.

He has coached age grade sides, from minis to juniors, and has been on the committee for over 30 years, becoming club secretary in 2017 before becoming chairman two years later.
