Cleeve CC recorded a fine four-wicket win over Lodway confirmed runners-up spot to guarantee Senior Division cricket and their second successive promotion last Saturday.

Cleeve captain Sam Williams continued in fine form at the toss electing to chase.

Cleeve’s opening pacemen Andy Barnsley (8-27) and Glenn Lewin bowled with control as Lewin struck first via a Williams pouch to remove James Norval at 17-1.

Jack Spiers took the second wicket as Tobias Rice departed LBW at 35-2 as did the resolute Adam Robson for 39 as Williams (2-1-18) secured the breakthrough. Caolan Pearce and Paul Stubbs were both bowled by Mitch Want (8-1-26) and Lewin (7-2-26) with Sam Shopland removed by Joe Hance (4-1-25) at 144-6. Connor Hance (3-24) and Alfie Parsons (1-7) were unsuccessful as Lodway posted 175-6 at the halfway mark.

In response Williams departed for just one and Ben Pinkney for no score as there was an initial wobble for Cleeve.

Want continued his good season form with 37 runs before being bowled at 56-3. Connor Hance and Lewin settled the nerves and booked in for 88-run partnership before Hance departed caught and bowled for a fine 53, his first half-century for over nine years.

Parsons (7) was bowled as was Lewin (45) by Matthew Crutchley for 45 at 171-6, leaving Barnsley (7) and Parsons (0) the not out batters to claim victory.
