Nailsea CC maintained their promotion and championship hopes in Bristol & District’s 10th Division with a comprehensive seven wicket win at Clevedon Thirds last Saturday.
Nailsea got off to an excellent start with Josh Dann, (1-7) and Mat Beadle, (1-16), removed Clevedon openers James Read (2) and M Wilson (0).
Clevedon captain Ian Harrington (17) and Raj Saundh (19) batted well as they reached 45-2.
However, leg spinner Zarweis Safi, (1-24 ) removed Harrington before the introduction of the experienced left-arm spinner Tony Hill saw Clevedon’s middle order implode.
Hill (5-10) bowled beautifully, and Rupert Kelly chipped in with 1-5 to bowl out Clevedon for 63.
In reply, Clevedon started well as Nailsea ended the first over on 6-2, as Phil Payne (3-25) bowled Harry Welshman and Gregg Howett.
Opener Kelly (nine not out) then dropped anchor, firstly Dave Wade, with 25, and then Pete Hardcastle, with 24 not out, each hitting a pair of sixes, to help Nailsea reach their target in nine overs.
Nailsea are now 10 points clear of their nearest rivals Stoke Bishop CC, who they host in their final home game of the season this Saturday.
