Barrow Gurney claimed a pair of wins on Saturday to strengthen their positions in their respective Bristol & District divisions.

In Division Four, at Hobbs Lane, against local rivals Blagdon the game was reduced to 23 overs due to the weather.

Batting first, Blagdon’s Charlie Ward scored 45 not out but excellent bowling by Frank Forge (4-22-5) rocked Blagdon with Guy Fisher taking 2-28 at the other end.

Freddie Patch (35 not out) then moved the score onto 123-7 at the innings break.

Barrow had a bit of a shaky start until at 39-5 when Ben Hodges and Phil Milton came together. Hodges was in aggressive mood hitting five sixes in his 43, whilst Milton (31 not out) helped the team home.

Mark Fisher (14 not out) accompanied him as Barrow ran out five wicket winners.

The Second XI secured a convincing 99-run win at Midsomer Norton thirds in Division 13.

Batting first, Barrow put on 173-9, with several players contributing double figure scores, supporting by a good innings of 33 not out from Paul Gard.

The hosts struggled as Linden Alway’s 4-18 ripped the heart out of the middle order, supported by Charlotte Huntley’s 2-19.

Matt Edgar took the final three wickets for only five runs to cap off a fine victory for Barrow Gurney.
