A 16-year-old Clevedon Swimming Club swimmer won two gold medals at the British Swimming Summer Championships in Ponds Forge, Sheffield recently.
Jamie Steadman qualified for the final of the 100m breaststroke after finishing first in heat three with a time of 1:07.02 before he secured second in heat five after a time of 30.32 in the 50m breaststroke.
In the 100m final Steadman was fourth at halfway before a wonderful second 50m saw him crowed the champion with a splendid swim to finish with a superb time of 1:05.80 to claim his first gold medal.
And a day later the high-flying teenager got his second gold in the 50m after a composed display saw him finish in a wonderful time of 30:17.
“We are all absolutely thrilled for Jamie and for the club to have produced a home grown, British Champion,” head coach Pat Leaman said.
“It’s testament to the continuous hard work and practice Jamie has undertaken, working on his on skills and processes solidly throughout the year and then putting it all together under the most intense race conditions.
“I can’t wait to see what next year brings for him.”
Steadman now heads back to Ponds Forge this week for the Swim England English Championships where he hopes to win gold again in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
