Nailsea & District Croquet Club snatched victory from jaws of defeat after they edged Sidmouth 4-3 in the Parkstone Division Three Association Croquet trophy recently.

Nailsea fielded a strong team went into the lunch break with a 2-1 lead, thanks to singles victories by Andrew Wimshurst and David Hunt, with Graham McCausland and Brian Roynon having lost the doubles game.

The afternoon round of four singles games did not go so well initially, as Wimshurst and Hunt both lost in two closely contested games. However, McCausland managed a comfortable win to leave the match poised on three wins each.

All now rested on how Roynon would fare in the last game. When the timer at the end of the match sounded, his opponent was on the lawn, and he was five hoops in the lead at the end of his turn. Roynon with his last turn managed to hit in to start a break, and using only three of the four balls on the lawn made a fantastic six hoops to win his game, and give Nailsea victory and continue their winning streak.

This was a very good result for Nailsea against Sidmouth, who on paper were much stronger, and everyone managed to get a win on the day, which was even more pleasing.
