Nailsea CC suffered a 40-run defeat at Stoke Bishop in their top of the table encounter in Bristol & District's 10th Division last Saturday.

Batting first, Stoke Bishop took advantage of an early injury to David Wade to get off to a good start. Ian Morrcroft bowled well to take 2-32 and Sam Jervis conceded just 17 in his eight overs with one wicket.

Rupert Kelly (1-45) and spinner ZS (3-35) finished with solid figures as Nailsea were able to restrict their hosts to 202-7 at the break.

In reply, after the early loss of Gary Phippen, Kelly and Nilesh Vaz looked in total control as they took Nailsea to 60 without further loss.

However, once they fell in quick succession for 24 and 35 respectively, wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Gregg Howett with 24, Wade with a hard hitting 27 and 22 from Steve Spencer kept Nailsea in the game, but as they fell, the tail failed to wag and Nailsea were to finish 162 all out.

This Saturday Nailsea welcome Backwell Flax Bourton Seconds to The Grove.
